Maurice Tani - Blues Noir
Doors at 6:30. Music at 7:30P
A don't miss event!!! A poet with a guitar and smokin’ hot band!! Maurice is in his own lane. Known for his wry/rye-to-romantic songwriting, agile guitar style and expressive singing, Tani's particular flavor of music is a broad spectrum tincture of influences to cure what ails you. While rooted (at times distantly) in country music, his writing is centered on an urban-western perspective. Perhaps he is best described as Blues Noir - Short musical narratives of life on the left coast; A sort of cinema for the blind.

As one fan puts it, he’s the “ghost of Lester Young.” The irony is that he’s not that well known outside the jazz world. Nevertheless, he has hundreds of fans in social media, particularly on YouTube. He’s the saxman’s saxman, particularly for aficionados of Bebop. Moreover, he’s playing somewhere most nights;

Artist Reception: Paintings of Ruth Shorer
Join us from 2-4P
The art of Ruth Petersen Shorer captures powerful universal feelings through her personally revealing paintings. Her expressionistic works were created as a reflection on the dichotomies of life; lives touched by both exhilaration and frustration. Intensity is felt through depth of color and form as well as content. Her narrative pieces are stories. They are passionate, inspiring and emotionally rich, much like life.

Classical Sound Room with Ian Scarfe
Doors at 5P. Music at 6
Pianist Ian Scarfe returns to the Sound Room with a program that tours centuries of piano repertoire. Scarfe is a natural fit for the Sound Room's classical series - his signature stage presence gives a conversational and charismatic approach to presenting this music. Audiences will enjoy the uncharacteristically gentle Sonata in D Major, Op. 28 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the so-called "Pastoral Sonata" because of its bright and cheery themes that are reminiscent of folk dances. Scarfe will also embark on a tour of the Romantic era, with virtuoso works by Franz Liszt and Frederic Chopin giving the Sound Room's Baldwin Grand Piano a real workout. Selections from the 20th Century will include American composers Amy Beach and George Gershwin, as well as an encore performance of Samuel Barber's "Excursions, Op. 20", which Scarfe performed here during the early, live-streamed, months of the pandemic.
