Happy New Year and welcome to 2023!

We hope you enjoyed the winter recess and were able to spend time doing things that are meaningful to you. Due to the winter recess, we’ll be sending our January newsletter a little later this month, but until then we wanted to share a few updates.

In case you missed it in previous digests, we welcomed three new co-chairs in 2022. Joining Deidre Schreiber is Suzanne Dossous-Verdier, Manager of Desktop Support for HUIT; Xenia Parker, Director, Agile Program Delivery, Digital Transformation for HBS; and Donna Sweeney, Technical Support Engineer for HUIT. Each of these individuals brings tremendous experience, perspective and enthusiasm to our mission and we are excited for the future of Women In Technology + Allies. In the months ahead, you’ll hear more from our newest leadership team and we hope you’ll be able to participate in many of the events we have planned for 2023.

We are also thrilled to welcome back many of our volunteers, who support the work and mission of Women in Technology + Allies both in front and behind the scenes. Learn more about how they spent their winter recess below. They are now relaxed, refreshed, and ready to get back to work!

See you all soon!

I stayed local during the winter recess. My husband and I did holiday celebrations in Eastham (Cape Cod) and Bridgewater and rang in the New Year with friends in Providence. I primarily spent time watching TV, reading, and lots of dog park time with our two rescue pups, Augie and Fiona.
Alex Nazarenko, WIT+ Volunteer and Senior Software Engineer for Identity & Access Management, HUIT

The usual family gathering over Christmas break at a log cabin upstate New-York for skiing, dinners, Christmas tree dressing fun etc. Adirondacks is an amazing place (near Lake Placid, where we beat the Soviets in hockey, back in 1980 Olympics) with great food and Christmas gifts shopping (among other things), stunning views of the areas, occasional animals, even bears.
Amanda Sullivan, WIT+ Volunteer and Talent Acquisition and Outreach Consultant, Harvard Human Resources

This year I spent lots of time with family and friends over break. It was my family’s first Christmas with my 6-month-old niece, which was a blast. I also played and coached volleyball, watched some new TV shows, and went to a Celtics game with one of my oldest friends!
Angie Boudreau, WIT+ Volunteer and Associate Director, Talent Acquisition and Outreach, Harvard Human Resources

We took a road trip to Raleigh, North Carolina to visit family. We went to see a Carolina Hurricanes Hockey game where my niece and I got to meet Stormy, the team mascot.
Justin Erickson, WIT+ Volunteer and Training Coordinator, IT Academy

This year I traveled to Kentucky to visit family and friends. I was able to visit family I don’t get to see often, and it was heartwarming to catch up. Additionally, I got to meet my grandmother’s puppy who was the sweetest dog!
Christine Boehler, WIT+ Volunteer and Associate Director, Digital Strategy, Harvard College/FAS

I spent time with family and friends. I took my daughter to some local holiday activities, lots of dog walks, and went to a Pats game. I also took a little extra time to continue studying for a certification, catch up on my other volunteer work with HighEdWeb, and do some house decluttering!
Kella Mendes, WIT + Volunteer and QA Intern for Identity and Access Management

This year my plan is to spend time with my family, hiking with friends, continuing my learning by completing courses, getting certifications, work on my resume, cover letter and job searching opportunities as a Quality Assurance Analyst.
Lori Moses, WIT+ Volunteer and Training Coordinator Intern, IT Academy

This year I plan on spending the holidays with family as well as catching up with some friends. I hope to spend more time reading, taking walks and visiting New York City.
Jesslyn Boisclair, WIT+ Volunteer and Business Analyst, HUIT

I spent time with my family and friends who were visiting from out of town. I finally bought film for a Polaroid camera I’ve had for a while, so I had fun taking pictures of everyone.
