~ Does early access provide more opportunities for accused persons to understand their rights more fully?
~ Does systemwide earlier access to counsel lead to decreased jail populations, fairer pretrial outcomes, and increased trust in the criminal legal system and its process?
The Public Defender’s Office provides legal representation for adults and juveniles who are charged with criminal offenses and are otherwise unable to afford counsel. Ronald H. Abernathy has been Napa County’s public defender since May 2013.
