Happy New Year!

As we head into 2023, we can’t help but reflect and celebrate the past years’ activities of growth and change.

To highlight a few, we have rebranded to the Marine Stewardship Initiative, launched our new 5-Year Strategic Plan, added a new Marine Debris Reporting feature to our website, conducted research on slhawt’ (herring) and dungeness crab megalopae, held seven Marine Reference Guide training sessions, presented to, and engaged with, over 1000 community members, and so much more!

Our work fulfills us through knowledge gathered and shared, and community and connections cultivated along the way. As such, we are so grateful to you, for your continued support throughout it all, whether it be through volunteering, funding, or by reading and sharing our work, your contributions do not go unnoticed and brings purpose to what we do.

Launching into the new year, we are excited to announce that we are already off to a fruitful start recently completing our highly anticipated reports on plankton and slhawt’ (herring) surveys! These reports took an immense amount of hard work, leadership, and support by project staff, volunteers, and funders, and we are so proud to share with you the end result of these collective efforts. You can read both reports by clicking on the links below!

Best of Luck Bridget!

The New Year tends to signal a season of change, and the same is true for our team at the MSI. After four incredible years of seeing the Marine Reference Guide from concept to realization (and beyond), Bridget John will be leaving the Marine Stewardship Initiative to complete an internship in Marine Spatial Planning with Fisheries and Oceans Canada! Her absence will not go unnoticed, and we are certain that she will be missed in the community that she has helped to create. We wish her all the best completing this final phase of her Master’s Program, and hope to work with her again soon in this new space.
We wish you all the best start to 2023, and thank you again for all of your support towards the project’s success over the past year!
