Thank You to Our Supporters
for Another Successful Year

We come to you with great appreciation as we close out another calendar year and move into the next phase of the 2022/23 school year. We have just recognized our students with a joyous winter party gathering, and some photos are found below.

You’ll also find below some student artwork, submitted as part of a contest we held to find new imagery for our donor Thank You Cards.  It was tough to pick a winner!

Finally, we're very proud to introduce you to one of our Homework Club alumni students, Raymond Chhun, and to share with you the great news about his impressive academic accomplishments.  In a recent interview, Raymond shared with us the impact Homework Club had on his success. Read more below!

Thank you to our supporters for keeping our doors open, bellies full and the path to graduation paved. May your holiday season be filled with love and laughter.
We can't exist without your continued support.
We humbly thank you for whatever you are able to give today.

THANK YOU, In Artwork Form!
We had wonderful submissions of artwork in a contest to find a new design for our donor thank you cards! Thank you so much to our students for sharing their talent with us. All 3 submissions were from Grade 9 students: Ann Ho's design was voted by our board as the winner, but not easily as we loved the work of runners up Jacob Tsang and Tenmei Austin - so we are sharing all 3 with you here!
An ARTIST STATEMENT from CONTEST WINNER ANN HO, below!
CONGRATULATIONS, and thank you, Ann.

As hard-working as a bee. As clever as a fox. (as) wise as an owl. No hurries, no worries (the sloth).

These are all words we can use to describe everyone that’s a part of homework club. Everyone is super hard-working, clever, and wise and doesn’t rush things. Everyone dedicates a lot of work and time to homework club. Either if you’re a part of it or volunteering. You can see that homework club members and sponsors invest a lot in the club.

And more huge thanks to runners up Jacob Tsang (below, left) and Tenmei Austin (below, right)!
Homework Club Alumni Spotlight
We want to shine a light on some of our students - past and present - who really knock our socks off!

In this instalment of our Spotlight, we hear from Homework Club alumni and student superstar Raymond Chhun, who went on to study nursing and who has just recently earned his Masters Degree and an award for Nursing! Raymond has also just learned he is accepted to begin a Doctorate degree and will begin his PhD in Nursing at the University of Alberta in 2023.

We hope any current Homework Club student reading this heeds his excellent advice below!
Raymond, what do you remember about Homework Club from your time there?
The Homework Club provided me with the necessary resources to maximize my learning in an environment that was safe and nurturing. The start of my educational career was profoundly influenced by the organizers and tutors of the HWC.
Why did you choose nursing as a post-secondary option?
My mentor suggested that I consider and explore nursing as a potential career. And yes, MEN can be nurses too!
Who helped you along your path towards your university career?
Two mentors: Dianne Rice (the founder of Homework Club) for getting me started and Cathy Koller for pushing me to pursue graduate studies. And Dr. Helen Brown for guiding and shaping me into a strong scholar.

What advice would you give your former "Homework Clubber" self?
  1. Life is not easy. If it were easy there would be no Raymond Chhun.
  2. Make mistakes and learn from them. Work hard, stay humble, and be tenacious.
  3. Don't give up. Fall down seven times and get up eight.
