Sunday Blast

Greetings, Michigan Wolverines. Welcome to your second Blast of the New Year. Some news is good, some nor so good. But wait, we’re the Victors so we can take it! First, the logistics of Monday’s meeting.

Doors open at 10.00 am. Remember, we’re in basketball mode so Weber’s Ballroom is smaller. Monday’s menu is Chicken Chasseur or Whitefish, Au Gratin Potatoes and Vegetable Medley. We have not heard who our basketball speaker will be. Our second speaker is Sean Bornet, Michigan Wrestling Coach. Sean has heard about you and the questions you might ask. He’s not shaking in his tennies exactly.. Please make him feel at home. You’re a daunting audience so don’t disappoint.

Now for the semi grizzly news. Michigan Men’s Basketball. What can be said? Michigan 61, CMU 63. Michigan 70, PSU 69, Michigan 81, Maryland 46. Michigan 53, MSU 59. The wins are great, although a few nailbiters. The losses, not so good. I heard a fan say, “I wonder who will show up tonight.” Never mind, it’s still early but not so early.

Women’s Basketball. Congratulations to Coach Barnes-Arico on her 500th game. She is an inspiration to her team, both as a coach and as a mentor. Michigan 82, Penn State 72. Iowa 94, Michigan 85, playing to a packed house of 10,731 fans. Dollar day was a huge success, unless you were trying to park your vehicle. Michigan 76, Nebraska 59. Michigan 57, OSU 66. That makes two losses for the team. Same deal, it’s early in the season but not too early.

Other sports, Wrestling is doing well, Men’s Gymnastics is also, Track and Field is free and there are meets the next two Saturdays. If you haven’t seen the new facility, now’s your opportunity before tournaments really begin. Great seating, including handicapped. Women’s Gymnastics. Young ladies are the biggest Sunday fans, and our teams are doing great. Still as talented as last season, including a few new moves.

We are still accepting Michigan items for our April event. As long as the items are in good repair, Joyce and Sheila will gladly accept them. Things that you no longer need may be just what someone is looking for. We usually discontinue the 50-50 raffle during basketball but if you’re interested, we can continue.

We have a few tickets available for the following. Cash or check please. First come gets the tickets.
