Are you "in good standing?" Every year, the Board of Directors identifies a "record date." Members who have paid their dues (including past amounts due) by the 2023 record dateJanuary 30, will be considered "in good standing" and will be eligible to vote in the upcoming election of Directors.

Fitness Orientations are back! Each fitness center will host a free orientation in February, on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Click HERE for the schedule and important information about registration, which is required.

Desert Hills Fitness Center Expansion has begun!   #forGVRmembers
Work has begun on the expansion of the Desert Hills fitness center. The very noisy and dusty demolition phase will last until about January 24, followed immediately by a dustier, but perhaps not quite as noisy, two-week concrete work phase. Desert Hills clubs and regular users have been notified, so please bear with them if you find an event has been moved or rescheduled to avoid the ruckus.

During the concrete work phase, which is currently scheduled from January 25 to February 7, the pool, spa, and pool deck will close.

The billiards room at Desert Hills has closed permanently. Billiards will eventually have a new permanent home on the lower level of the Del Sol Clubhouse just down the street. The Clubhouse is not yet open, so in the meantime, the East Center Art Room will be home to a snooker and a billiards table. Barring unforeseen difficulties, we expect the tables in the Art Room to be available starting Wednesday, January 18.

This is a messy project, but an exciting one. Members should be enjoying the improved facility this spring. Thank you in advance for your patience with the moving parts, racket, and dust.

Is this the first you're hearing about the Desert Hills fitness expansion?

SPAS TO BE CLOSED FOR CLEANING:

Canoa Ranch: Tuesday, January 17
A note from the Aquatics Supervisor:

In an effort to conserve water, we will now shift to performing spa cleanings on an as-needed basis. Last year we dumped nearly 300,000 gallons of water into the sewer, and that is without having a spa at East Center. There are several factors that may, but not necessarily, result in a spa closure for full or partial draining and cleaning:
  1. TDS (total dissolved solids) getting too high.
  2. Excessive oils, both body and tanning on the surface.
  3. Turbidity (clarity) of the water.
  4. Chemical imbalance.
  5. Staining of the plaster surface.
  6. Overall dinginess.
  7. Excessive suds due to soap being introduced to the system. This will result in immediate closure and can take a couple days to rectify.
The next several months will be a trial run to assess the feasibility of this approach to spa cleaning.
