The Pacific Northwest Research Station Juneau Forestry Sciences Lab is filling internships working at the intersection of forestry, plant ecology, wildlife biology, and natural resources in Southeast Alaska. Interns will collect field data as part of the Tongass-Wide Young Growth Studies (TWYGS) project, a research-management partnership investigating forestry practices, plant communities, and wildlife habitat on the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska.
  • Research Assistant (March 2023-March 2024) - One 12-month internship that will lead a crew during the summer field season and support research, logistics, and data management fo the remainder of the year.
  • Crew Leader (May-Sept 2023) - One 16-week internship leading a field crew.
  • Crew Member (May-August 2023) - Seven 14-week Internships completing field data collection.
Benefits include:  Extensive training and orientation in forestry and natural resources fieldwork and data collection that will provide a foundation for work anywhere; a biweekly stipend; round-trip travel allowance, housing, and transportation provided; AmeriCorps award upon complection of the internship; a chance to boost your resume while living and working in remote areas iin the Alaskan temperate rainforest.

NIGMS Leading Equity and Diversity in the Medical Scientist Training Program (LEAD MSTP)(T32) - Application due date:  Jan 25, 2023
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) released a funding opportunity announcement for its new Leading Equity and Diversity in the Medical Scientist Training Program (LEAD MSTP)(T32). The goal of LEAD MSTP is "to develop a diverse pool of highly training clinician-scientist leaders available to meet the Nation's biomedical research needs by providing support for dual-degree clinician scientist training at institutions that have historically not been well represented among NIGMS-funded MSTPs." Click here to learn more!


Alaska INBRE Graduate Research Assistantship Request for Proposals - Alaska INBRE is accepting proposals for approximately eight Graduate Research Assistantships for AY 23-24 and Summer 2024. Submission date for Administrative Review is January 9, 2023, and the Submission Due Date is January 13, 2023. Alaska INBRE Sustaining Research Excellence (SRE) Awards - Request for Proposals - As part of the SRE Core of AK INBRE 4, successful biomedical and health researchers within the INBRE network may be nominated to receive funding for the support of graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and technicians, the purchase of equipment, and/or to provide buyouts from teaching or clinical duties. This support is meant as an incentive for successful investigators to remain in Alaska and further develop their research program through the continued acquisition of major grants. Alaska INBRE Summer 2023 Diversity Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URAD) Opportunity - Submission date - Feb 3, 2023, Funding period May 7 to Aug 12, 2023.  The Alaska IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) is supported by a grant from the NIH. The primary objective of the Alaska INBRE Summer Academic Enrichment Diversity Undergraduate Research Opportunity initiative is to provide support for a project in the biomedical sciences and health with mentorship from a UA faculty member. Students funded through this program will gain valuable experience in designing, conducting, and reporting biomedical research. The purpose is to train undergraduate students in scientific methods, scientific writing, reporting, and presentation preparation. Priority will be given to Alaska Native students and students from other underrepresented groups as defined by NIH. Students will be funded through this solicitation for conducting research at UAF, UAA, or UAS. Award Announcement

EPA Request for Applications - Center for Early Lifestage Vulnerabilities to Environmental Stressors - Cumulative Health Impacts for Children in Underserved Rural Agricultural Communities in the United States. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications to establish a research center to better understand the cumulative health impacts of early lifestage exposures to multiple pollutants in conjunction with other relevant non-chemical stressors in underserved, rural agricultural communities in the U.S.

NCURA Level I: Fundamentals of Sponsored Project Administration - Live Virtual Experience - Jan 23-26, 2023.  This program is intended primarily for the newcomer (less than 2 years experience) involved in sponsored projects administration at higher education institutions and affiliates, or for the individual who has primarily worked in only one area of sponsored projects administration and is seeking a broader view of the profession. This curriculum is targeted specifically to proposal development personnel, sponsored projects administrators, grant and contract accountants, departmental administrators, research compliance administrators and others wiuth newly acquired responsibilities in sponsored projects administration.
