Welcome to your January update. Read on for updates on projects in Uganda and our volunteers across the UK. We also remember John, Programme Officer at Kafue Innovation Centre in Zambia, and invite you to join our latest events.

Thank you, as ever, for your continued support. Now, as inflation rates rise in our partner countries to over 40%, your support means more than ever before.

Daddies and doughnuts in Uganda

In a busy trading centre in Kibaale District, Uganda, our partner RUPAD has completed construction of a brand new catering facility, where 35 women are learning to make tasty baked treats for local markets.

Read more about this exciting project which is equipping women with the skills to earn an immediate income.

Remembering John Nambwa

In December 2022, Tools for Self Reliance unfortunately lost one of our dear colleagues John Nambwa of Kafue Innovation Centre, Zambia. John, pictured bottom right, was a fiercely intelligent and selfless young man who worked tirelessly to improve the opportunities for his local community in Kafue, and drive innovation in livelihood development and climate change programmes. John will be sorely missed by all who knew him and by those with the privilege of working alongside him.

Welcome SWVG volunteers

This month we are delighted to welcome 8 new volunteers to our Netley Marsh workshop, from the Southampton & Winchester Visitors Group.  SWVG befriends and supports refugees and asylum seekers in the Southampton area.

Our new volunteers are already proving valuable additions to the team and we are so pleased to explore our partnership with the SWVG further.

Spotlight on volunteer success

We are putting the spotlight on two volunteers Tracey and Shelley who are unsung heroes of the eBay world.

They have gone above and beyond to get our surplus tools into the hands of enthusiasts.
From their first 2011 toe-dipping activity into eBay, where they sold a broken Tiger Moth compass for £10, they have raised a whopping £36,233 for Tools for Self Reliance.
