2022 was a year of start and stops. I’ve lost count of the number of colds, flus, covids and the what-nots that sidelined me. But, all told, I’ve missed about 10 weeks of training involuntarily due to various bugs and viruses.
On the plus side, I’ve put in the work when I’ve been healthy. My yearly mileage will end up being my second highest ever. Doing that has not been easy. Getting up and back into it after forced time off is always challenging, and there have been times I’ve felt like doing anything other than going for a run.
The lack of consistency also means I’ve not been able to achieve the fitness and race times I’ve been aiming for. But I know that the work is not for naught. I believe that the work I put in now will strengthen the foundation, and allow me to reach new heights once I find consistency.
I honestly don’t know what I can do to avoid all these forced breaks. But I’m tweaking a couple of things here and there, and will continue to train in what I believe is a sustainable manner. Hopefully that will do the trick, and 2023 will be a better year as far as consistency is concerned.
Either way, if I’m able to train well most weeks of the coming year, it will be a success. To me, it is all about the process. To avoid standing still, and to find some enjoyment in every run.
