Last week, this week and next year!

For our final Breadness Buzz of the year, I feel it's fitting to take a brief look back, tell you what's happening this weekend, and give you a sneak preview of what's coming as January 2023 approaches.

It's in the Bag...
The above photo (taken last Friday) shows about 1/3 of the advance orders we received and fulfilled at Random Acts of Breadness Christmas week. Saturday was twice as much as this and took up the whole 10 feet of our dough bench! We definitely felt like Santa's Elves at the workshop with the clock ticking down to Christmas Day!

...and in the Box!
Earlier in the week we had 15 Breadness Box orders to ship across the country (see above). I personally packed and shipped them all, and they were all delivered before Christmas!

During these super-busy holiday weeks (starting in November), it really helps us (and you) when orders are placed on line in advance at breadness.com. If you don't have online access, you can call us at 818-562-7303 and leave a message with your order and pickup date. Either way, we'll have your order in the bag (or box) and ready for pickup before we open the doors to the public!

Thanks to all our friends and customers for making this our best two months to date!  The spirit of giving random acts of breadness was truly manifest this season; you made a lot of people happy!

New Year's Nosh...
I remember back in the day, the best part about our parents' New Year's Eve party was the appetizers! My favs were Cocktail Franks in BBQ sauce and Corn Chips, Celery Sticks and Onion Dip! Times have certainly changed since then and at the bakery we're glad to introduce some tasty alternatives for your celebration:

Breadness Bites
Cut slices of our Artisan Country Sourdough Loaf into 2" bite-size pieces and arrange on a serving platter. Slice Smoked Gouda cheese, cut into pieces slightly smaller than the bread and place on top of each piece. Top the cheese pieces with a small dollop of different flavors of Laura Ann's Artisan Jams: Raspberry Habanero, Rockin' Jalapeno, Blackberry Bay Leaf or Blueberry Basil. Let guests know which flavors are on which pieces and let the conversations begin!

You can also swap one or two of our Beyond the Olive Tapenades for one or two of the jams in the recipe above. Our use them all! Whatever you choose to do, the Breadness Bites platter is sure to be all gone well before midnight!

And for all the Rose Parade broadcast watchers on New Year's Day, our Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan Sourdough makes a most awesome French Toast! We just baked up a fresh batch of this signature loaf which you can pick up Friday or Saturday between noon and 6 p.m. (unless we sell out like last weekend!). Again order in advance so we can have one or more of these reserved for you this weekend.

CYNDIE & RANDALL SITTING UNDER AN OLIVE TREE ON OJAI OLIVE OIL COMPANY'S ESTATE

Ojai Calling...
This arts community nestled in a valley just north of Ventura looms large in the legend of Random Acts of Breadness. It was in Ojai in December of 2016, that the first bread gifts were transported and kept in the trunk of our car for the 2 days we were there. It was nearly freezing out that Christmas holiday and that kept the bread fresh without drying it out. (We gave the first gift loaves to family and friends on Christmas Day.) Rainbow Bridge Market in downtown Ojai was where I first saw and purchased Ojai Olive Oil Company's organic olive oils and Ritrovo Selections organic balsamic vinegars. After opening our bakery in 2021, I decided to carry these same products, bringing a taste of Ojai to Burbank. And it was at Ovo Arts where I first saw the stunning solid teak end-grain cutting boards we also have available for our bread gift boxes. If you have a chance, you should spend a day or two in Ojai. Who knows? A dream might take flight after your visit...

Coming in January...
2023 is going to be an exciting year as we will be offering our own Breadness Bites To-Go packages: Shots & Sourdough (2 slices of our Artisan Sourdough Country Loaf plus a shot (or more if you prefer) of premium, fresh-harvest extra virgin olive oils from around the world; and NB&J (2 slices of our Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan Sourdough plus an ounce of NuttZo Nut/Seed Butter and an ounce of one of Laura Ann's Lo-Fi Artisan Jams). We're also planning to have our first Tea, Toast and Jam after-hours event featuring teas from Geeky Teas & Games next door along with our amazing Raw Farm Butters, Clif Family Honey Spreads and Laura Ann's Jams. Later in the year, coinciding with the new olive crop harvests here in California, we'll have an after-hours Olive Oil and Balsamic "Healthy Hour" tasting. As a subscriber to Breadness Buzz, you'll be the first to be invited to these events so stay tuned...

We are open today (12/30) and tomorrow (New Year's Eve), 12 to 6 p.m. (closed New Years Day)
If you need something to make your celebration even more special, do come by and peruse our shelves. If you need a hostess gift to bring to another's celebration, we have a wide selection of olive oils, balsamics, butters, honeys, jams and tapenades, as well as our cutting boards, towels and the perfect bread knife! And in case you can't make it to the bakery, we always have Breadness Gift Cards available right from our website which will get e-mailed to your lucky recipient to be used at their convenience!

Random Acts of Breadness is located at 2214 West Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank (2-1/2 blocks east of Buena Vista on the south side of the street). Come to the bakery and sample our artisan wares, or order on line for bakery pickup, or have Breadness delivered or shipped to your door. You may also order by phone at 818-562-7303 and pay when you come pick it up.

Note: If you (or someone you wish to gift) live in Los Angeles County, Orange County or Ventura County, we can ship overnight on Thursday (via UPS Ground) for a Breadness Box to arrive on Friday. Place your order before Thursday at noon here.

Here's a toast to health and happiness in the coming year!

From our hands to yours...
