WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING RECENTLY

My favourite book this year. This is the third book I've read by Phil Earle. It actually came out in 2021 and was on my reading list but it took me a while to get around to reading it.
Inspired by a friend of Phil's who's father worked at Manchester zoo during the secon world war. Life affirming and guaranteed to bring a few tears to your eyes. Anyway, highly recommended.

WHAT I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO RECENTLY

ART PEPPER + ELEVEN. One of the greatest alto saxophone players to follow in the footsteps of Charlie Parker. Self taught and never practiced, hard to believe. An incredible album, recorded in 1959 and on drums the one and only Mel Lewis. Beautiful songs, well recorded and a superbly delivered.

SOME HANDWRITTEN STICKING EXERCISES

A few handwritten sticking variations. Play bass drum foot on all four beats of the bar and hi hat foot on the two and four. See what tempo you can get it up to and and play each hand on different voices.
