Friend,

I'm writing today to ask you to make a contribution—of $25 or anything you can—to the Economic Policy Institute. If that's all you need to hear to add your support, please, use this link to make a year-end donation to EPI and support their continuing efforts in our fight for economic justice.

If you would like to know more, I hope you'll continue reading.

Here’s why support for EPI is so critical at this time, Friend:

In our country, over the last several decades, the very wealthy have continued to get richer while millions of working families struggle to pay their bills, feed their families, and afford health care. EPI research showed that CEOs were paid 399 times as much as a typical worker last year. The top 1% owns a third of the country’s wealth. And the truth is that without action, our nations disgraceful levels of wealth and income inequality will continue to widen.

But we know these trends can be reversed.

In November, the American people turned out, even amid economic uncertainty, and demanded real solutions to the crises facing working people. Not only was the anticipated “red wave” held off, but voters across the country supported candidates with pro-worker agendas up and down the ballot, as well as progressive ballot initiatives that aim to strengthen worker power and reduce economic inequality.

Voters in Nebraska and Nevada voted to raise their states’ minimum wage, voters in New York voted for green jobs with strong labor standards, and Massachusetts voters supported raising taxes on the state’s wealthiest residents. Voters supported winning ballot measures to increase the supply of affordable housing in Colorado, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas.

It’s clear that the people support a new direction for our country—one that finally addresses the long-neglected crises facing the working class, demands that billionaires and large corporations pay their fair share, and calls for a government and an economy that works for ALL of us, not just the wealthy few.

This is a vision for our country that we must continue to fight for—and the Economic Policy Institute is a critical ally in that fight.

Over the last year, EPI provided strong support for the flagship progressive policies of the Democrats’ agenda, and EPI continues to lift up the positive economic impacts of these policies on workers and families—including the expanded Child Tax Credit, unemployment insurance, infrastructure legislation, and more.

EPI research provides advocates and policymakers with solid evidence for the ways that unions benefit their members, their local communities, and the economy.

EPI also shines a bright light on the needs of our most vulnerable workers throughout the ongoing pandemic, from the lack of federally guaranteed paid sick leave to  the shamefully low pay of some of our most essential child care and home health care workers.

Year after year, EPI has worked to ensure the needs of working people are reflected in the policy decisions being made in Washington, D.C., and all across the country, and my Senate colleagues and I frequently turn to EPI research to make the case for progressive change.

In the fights for a living wage, to improve labor standards, to expand Social Security benefits, and to strengthen the right to organize and form a union, EPI has been there for us—and thats why Im asking you today:

Can you make a $25 contribution to EPI and support the research behind our movement's fight for economic justice? Your financial support ahead of their end-of-year deadline will ensure they have the resources needed to advance our progressive agenda in 2023 and beyond.

Make no mistake, the fight for economic justice is not easy. We will face well-funded opposition at every turn from the billionaire class and their allies in the political establishment. That’s why the solid economic research and allyship provided by EPI is so critical in making the case for change, and for helping us turn our vision into reality.

Its clear that the American people support progressive change. As long as we continue to stand together, we can advance a bold economic agenda that will ensure working people their fair share of our nation’s wealth, and create a government that works for the many, not the few.

Thank you for supporting EPI in that fight, and thanks for all that you do in our movements collective struggle for a fair and just economy.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
