"Downy in Golden Light"
Photograph by: Debbie Jordan
The beautiful Downy Woodpecker above was foraging in the marsh grass at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Delaware. I followed its movement as it darted in and out of the shadows in hopes of capturing an image. He was so fast, and the marsh was so dense, that I had a difficult time keeping up with him. Just as I was about to give up, he graciously landed on a stalk where I had a clear shot and where the gorgeous golden sunlight lit up his face. I snapped the shutter and then, in an instant, he was gone.
