The purpose of this communication is to inform our Church  Community concerning important topics discussed and motions passed from the most recent monthly meeting and work sessions of the Parish Council.  Please note that any formal action required on any topic discussed during our work sessions is taken at the following Regular Meeting.  Please feel free to contact either myself or any PC member for any comments, suggestions, clarifications, and/or questions regarding this communication.

SUMMARY
  Parish Council Meetings
November 8, 2022 & December 13, 2022

Recap of Parish Council Meeting 
November 8, 2022
Rescheduled from November 13, 2022
in order to prepare for the General Assembly Meeting on November 12, 2022

 
Fr. Timothy reported:  
  • The new and donated “Estavromenos” cross has arrived and has been placed in the Altar.  The previous cross will, most likely, be donated to a parish in need.
  • That GOYA Winter Retreat will be sponsored at Assumption Church in January.
The Committee Reports were presented.  The Parish Council: 
  • Once again, reviewed the proposed 2023 Budget in preparation of the General Assembly Meeting on November 12, 2022.
  • Agreed to move forward in their search for a bookkeeper to replace Gary Boyce who has donated his time to St. Katherine and leaving at the end of January.  The budget will be revised accordingly pending confirmation of the bookkeeper duties and compensation.
  • Was updated on potential tenant inquiries regarding the Education Building and gym.
  • Reviewed upcoming 2022-2023 hall rentals.
  • Was briefed on the new purchase of a new camera for live streaming which has been donated and ordered.  The camera was not included as part of the original sound system.
  • Received an update on the  40th Anniversary dinner which was deemed a success; final figures are forthcoming.
  • Discussed future fundraisers, i.e., Multi-cultural event at the City of Chandler, February Taverna Night, on-going “Taste of Greece” holiday and special events. Discussed pending bids for Community Center repair, i.e., gym floor repair and sanding, termite treatment, roof repairs pigeon remediation.
  • Discussed forming procedures and guidelines for sacraments and use of the church.
  • Agreed that all travel arrangements for church business be booked by the Office in order to take advantage of reward points and other offers…  Eligible travel includes the National Couples Retreat, the Clergy Laity, and the Presvyteras’ Retreat.
  • noted that 6 members of the current 11 member Parish Council are up for re-election
  • Accepted the resignation of Tom Morden citing that he was unable to fulfill his responsibilities on the Audit Committee.
  • Was updated on new ways to donate to St. Katherine, i.e., stocks and bonds.
 
Recap of Parish Council Meeting December 13, 2022
 
The Parish Council:
  • Welcomed “Yianni’s Catering” who approached the Parish Council with suggestions on how to increase Community Center revenue.  The Parish Council will discuss and look further into those suggestions.
  • Moved to approve the hiring of a new bookkeeper for St. Katherine.  Compensation for the first year will be donated and a contract is anticipated to be complete by February.
  • Reviewed a report from our Realtors summarizing activity with potential tenants for the Education Building/gym.
  • Was advised that the final lease payment was received and that a final walk thru with the Autism Academy is ending.
  • Reviewed upcoming hall rentals.
  • Received an update on maintenance repairs in the Community Center.
  • Expressed gratitude to St. Irene Philoptochos for receipt of rummage sale proceeds and their quarterly donation for Community Center supplies.
  • Received an update on Stewardship.
  • Discussed the annual Christmas card and poinsettia donations.
  • Moved to pass the tray on Holy Wednesday Unction Service, Holy Wednesday, Good Friday evening, Holy Saturday prior to the Resurrection, and the Christmas midnight service.
  • Discussed maintaining church calendar for all church sacraments and the status of procedures and guidelines for the use of the church. 
  • Discussed the status of the establishment of the reserve account for the consecration of the church and efforts to notify our parish on how to donate.
