Cadet World Championships

A huge congratulations to our RGYC Cadet sailors, returning from a successful Australian and World Championship at Royal Yacht Club of Victoria.

Evie McDonald & Jack Jones took home the Australian Title, while Adela Thomas, crewing for Tasmanian helm Luca Groves, finished 3rd in the Worlds. Evie & Jack were the highest placed RGYC team in 6th, meaning 3 of the top 4 Australian sailors were from Geelong.

RGYC sailors were also part of the winning Victorian team, podiumed in the Promotional Regatta, won the highest place female helm trophies, qualified for the 2023 Worlds Team, and took home multiple race victories in all fleets.

A huge thanks to all of the parents for supporting these young sailors & the future of our club, and to Tony Bull, Dom Randall & Drew Malcolm for coaching the teams throughout the two events.

Stay tuned for an RGYC photo gallery😃

50th Anniversary Melbourne to Hobart Yacht Race

“The 50th Melbourne to Hobart has been a magnificent success, bringing together teams from across the country to compete in one of sailing’s iconic events. From the excitement of the race start at Portsea Pier to the cheers of the crowds lining the dock in Hobart, the Westcoaster continues to be a race that both challenges and rewards those prepared to give it a go. And we’re particularly happy on this 50th anniversary to see an increasing number of talented young women amongst the crews and skippers and look forward to attracting even more sailors to this unique event in future years,”  - Cyrus Allen (ORCV Commodore)

New Years Eve 2022

Over 180 members and guests joined in the 2022 New Year’s Eve celebrations. It was wonderful to see a family friendly event, with children sporting glow in the dark sticks. The family fireworks at 9:30pm lit up the sky, with no better viewing point than on the RGYC lawn. Members filled the dancefloor to welcome in the new year, enjoying the tunes from DJ Graham.

Happy New Year to all members, stay safe and enjoy the summer!
