Star Word Sunday

January 8, 2023

We will celebrate Epiphany with holy communion and the receiving of Star Words - intention words for the new year. The Magi followed a star, which ultimately led them to Jesus. We too use all the resources we have available to us to move closer to Jesus—including creative prayer practices. During worship you will pick your own star word printed on a card. Each star word is unique. No peeking! Trust the one you pick.  Can't be at church on the 8th? Contact the office to have your star word mailed to you.

Needed: Bubble Wrap & Volunteers

Sunday, January 8

Can you help take down and move the Christmas decorations after worship? We'll bring down the trees, wreaths, and banners and move the boxes and candelabras to the Mission House basement. This year the Worship Ministry is making an extra effort to pack the large nativity pieces securely in plastic totes with new bubble wrap. Do you have bubble wrap taking up space at home? We're taking donations!

January FAITH: Remembering God's Blessings

Gather together as a family on a On New Year’s Eve or even a day in early January, place a box or basket in a special place in your house and decorate it, including a sign that says, New Year 2023.

Throughout the year, try to find a time each week to put significant items in the basket such as a program, a card/note you received, a picture or drawing you made of something that happened during the week.  The items/pictures do not only have to represent happy memories, because we know that God is with us in good and difficult times. It can be valuable to remember sad and challenging times, too.

On New Year’s Eve of 2023, take turns with your family pulling items/pictures out of the basket and reflecting on all of the memories, remembering where God was present on that day.

When the basket is empty, say the following prayer together:
“Thank you, God, for the many ways you were with us last year, in good times and in difficult ones.  We are thankful for the many blessings of this year.  Amen.”
