As the hoarding around the Manresa grounds increases in area and the construction work begins in earnest, we also look forward in hope to a reopening late Autumn where we will be able to respond to the spiritual needs of so many who are searching for meaning in their lives. The squirrels have adapted to the disruption of their routine and habitat by moving down the avenue towards the sea. We are so grateful to our companion Spirituality Centres at Mount St. Anne’s, Drumalis, Ballyvaloo, Spanish Point and Mount St. Joseph’s for allowing us to offer Ignatian individually guided retreats in the meantime.

“You are standing on Holy Ground”. God’s words to Moses were recalled at our fire liturgy on the New Year’s eve retreat at Drumalis Spirituality Centre in Larne. In gratitude for all the blessings of the past year and in sorrow at all the suffering and hardship, we look forward in hope to God’s active intervention in our lives and relationships this year.

4-day Directed Retreat

The Manresa Retreat Team will lead this retreat in Ballyvaloo Retreat and Conference Centre, Enniscorthy, Co.Wexford.

'Directed' or 'individually guided' retreats have become part of the core ministry of Manresa. The retreatant is offered the opportunity to meet with the director every day, to be accompanied their review of the prayer and reflection. The retreat's days of individual guidance help you to recognise and attend to where God is in your life.

Priests' Retreats

Mike Drennan and the Manresa Retreat Team will lead a special retreat for priests at Drumalis, Larne, Co Antrim. This retreat is timed at the end of the Easter season and before the holy communion rush to allow busy priests to take some time out of their parishes to spend time alone with God in prayer. Bookings can be made by emailing reception@manresa.ie

Online Directed Retreat

An on-line directed retreat will start on the evening of 28 February. This can be either a 4, 6 or 8-day retreat depending on your preferences. The retreat will include a daily meeting with your spiritual director using Zoom. Optional sessions include guided prayer in the afternoon and a reflection session in the evening. Read more >>

Retreats in 2023

As the renovation work continues, members of the Manresa retreat team will lead individually directed retreats in other retreat centres in Ireland in 2023. We are happy to receive bookings for the following dates:

Diploma in Spirituality

The good news is that Manresa will be able to host this Maynooth accredited program starting in the Autumn. In an agreement with the builders we will use the newly refurbished rooms at the retreat house for accommodation but have meals in the new community house at the back of the grounds in the old Tertianship building as the new dining room will still be in construction at that time. Details and application forms will be available on the website before the end of the month.

Spiritual Direction

Manresa will continue to provide individual spiritual direction and supervision for directors during the refurbishment period. More information is available on our website.

Many people have found the benefits in taking time to retreat in their own or in a borrowed private space. We have been glad offer online direction and mass during retreats; now we continue to make resources available for use in your own time.

The Pope's monthly video presents topics that will keep the scope of our prayer inclusive and outward-looking. The January video should be available shortly.
