January 2023 - Happy New Year, a newsletter
Dear Friends,
We've rung in the new year. May 2023 be full of joy and possibility. I hope you'll enjoy the changes to the format (including better readability on mobile devices).

I've done a lot of thinking leading up to this moment, and I've realized that I spend more time than I can afford pulling this together every month. Over the past few years I've added in one quote, and then another, and notes about books I'm reading, and this past year the Writers SimpliFived blog in which I connected with other writers. Essentially, I've continued adding things without cutting back on anything.

It's time to go back to where - and why - I started.

So although the blog has been a lot of fun, I'm going to put it on hiatus for the time being. I'll keep the monthly newsy notes, making sure to include writing updates, and since I'm always reading anyway I'll pop in the book notes. A photo or three and we'll call it a day.

I had a goal of finishing the current rewrite - present to past tense and first to third point of view - by the end of 2022. It didn't happen, but in the last couple of weeks I made significant progress. The process of changing these relatively simple things has led me to move scenes around, delete other scenes, and add a few. I don't know for sure, yet, but I think the book is tighter and stronger for it. (My writing group will see the big surprise change in the next couple of weeks, so I'll know more soon.) Fingers crossed that next month I'll be able to tell you the draft is done.

Blessings to you and yours in this new year.
Sarah

Reading Corner
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
(His name is pronounced Owen)
This was an interesting book to read as a family. The protagonist is villainous, which had us looking for redeeming qualities.

A World of Curiosities by Louise Penny
Grim and grimmer, and as deep as Louise Penny ever gets. I'd read it again, because I'm sure there are layers I missed.
