2023 Lunch and Learn Calendar
Mark your calendars, our 2023 virtual Lunch and Learn series looks to be exciting! We will be partnering with several great speakers each month to discuss whole farm regenerative agriculture from multiple perspectives. These meetings will be via zoom from 12:-12:30pm ET, with more details being released near the event dates. We look forward to sharing knowledge of how we all take part in creating an equitable and sustainable food system.
Ohio Launches CAN Program

Today, the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) is proud to introduce Ohio CAN - Community + Agriculture + Nutrition.

Through this innovative program, historically underrepresented producers will be able to sell food to the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and the products will then be distributed to Ohioans in need through the 12 Feeding America foodbanks and 3,600 member charities across all 88 counties. Farmers and producers whose products are grown and produced within 400 miles of the city of Columbus are eligible to apply.

ODA Introduced new Beginner Farmer Tax Credit

The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) is helping to ensure the next crop of Ohio producers has the resources to provide for their families and those across the state.

The Beginning Farmer Tax Credit is now available to those who’ve recently entered the field and those who help beginning farmers. Along with beginning farmers, asset owners, or people or businesses that sell or rent farmland, livestock, buildings, or equipment to beginning famers may apply as well.

USDA Farmland Access Report
The aging of the population of U.S. farmers, increasing concentration of farmland ownership, and competition for land from urban and environmental uses may have implications for land available for beginning or socially disadvantaged (SDA) producers. Beginning and SDA producers may have fewer financial resources or face other constraints when buying or otherwise accessing land to enter farming or expand their farm operation. This report examines factors influencing land access to beginning and SDA farmers using survey, census, and administrative data.

Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association Conference
Germinate, Regenerate, Agitate not only follows the process of many farmers and advocates, but it also follows our perspective as we look to shaping the future of agricultural policy with the 2023 Farm Bill. This is an impactful point in time where we can empower a system where family farmers can thrive, fair and transparent markets can prosper, and people, the soil, and the environment can be healthy and sustainable. Sometimes that takes planting seeds, rebuilding our community, and shaking some things up.
