ALBANY PUBLIC LIBRARY
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
|
|
As a library team we look forward to a joyful and exciting 2023.
In a Facebook post (back in August) we asked the community a fun question, ‘If the library had an unlimited budget, what would you add to it?’ We posed the question to open a creative space to offer ‘big ideas’, not thinking we could realistically apply them, but finding the opposite. Many suggestions were doable and beautifully aligned with library plans already in the pipeline. So far, we have been able to:
- Install digital TVs to showcase our programs, activities, and events
- Create a new study space for quiet work and study
- Arrange events around mindfulness, permaculture, healthy living, and ‘green’ themes
Other suggestions including showing regular movies and having a library Book Club are already in place, and the heart-warming junior program ‘Paws for Reading’ where a child reads to a dog to build confidence (ceased during COVID restrictions) is set to make a comeback.
As the year unfolds, we will continue to review your ideas, implementing those that are workable and saving those which may be possible in the future. As a library service we remain dedicated and responsive to community needs.
January at the library is filled with exciting activities for all ages. Join in, or simply visit the lovely space to read, work or reflect.
Till next month,
Soraya
