"I think the biggest thing was that camaraderie and seeing everybody come together at the end of the meet. We were exchanging gear and laughs and taking pictures (both Team NSAF and the Cuban athletes). We'd only been there a couple of days, but it felt like we'd known them forever. It's something that I hope I can experience again and again, competing on future Olympic and World teams, because this was so special."

-- Team NSAF hurdler Brevin Sims (back row, 2nd from right), reflecting on his experience competing with and getting to know his teammates and fellow competitors from Cuba, and what it means for his future aspirations.

Hello Friends,

Happy New Year from the NSAF.

This is the last of our Legacy Fund emails from our end-of-the-year giving campaign. We thank each and every one of you who opened their hearts and wallets to this year's campaign.  Hundreds of student athletes will benefit greatly from your generosity.

As we wrap up the campaign, we wanted to once again give you a few examples of the impact of your giving.
  • 59 athletes who competed in Oregon at the World Athletics Championships this past summer had received over $140,000 in support from the NSAF while in high school.
  • Providing resources to schools that have little more than hope. St. Stephens Indian School in Riverton, WY is just one example.
  • Providing access to life-changing counsel from sports psychologist Dr. Margaret Ottley.
  • Preparing athletes for global competitions and for life.  Dr. Janice Davis shares how her NSAF experience prepared her for a life after sport when injuries shortened her career.
  • Leveling the playing field.  When the reality of family economics prevents athletes from chasing their dreams, the NSAF steps in to close the gap. One such group of athletes nearly missed such an opportunity, but instead set a world junior record.
These stories are just a few of the hundreds of examples of your dollars working to change lives.

Thank you again for your support of the NSAF.  If you did not have the opportunity to give, please consider a monthly donation that will sustain us throughout the year.

We wish you a prosperous and healthy 2023, full of PRs and new achievements.

“The NSAF has been the best thing that’s come along for high school track & field. It’s tougher now; everybody wants to hold a national meet, there’s money involved and they think they can put out a nice looking backpack and they’ll come. But to me, it’s more than that. It’s bigger than the bookbag. The NSAF has longevity, which I really respect. You can’t be around that long unless you do it well.”

-- Newburgh H.S./Newburgh Elite TC coach Malcolm Burks, recently elected to the Armory Coaches Hall of Fame, on the long-term impact of the NSAF on the sport. Read more about Coach Burks and other stories of those positively impacted by NSAF programs HERE.
