Coming Soon to UCET

Creating Accessible Canvas Sites

January 18, 4-5pm, Zoom (https://iu.zoom.us/j/92194551377).

What are these new dials in Canvas?!

After logging into Canvas after break, you might notice a new integration: Anthology Ally. This tool provides you with feedback that can help you make your course more accessible and provides your students with the ability to access course content in alternative formats.

Read more about the Canvas launch of Ally or join us on January 25, 11:00am-12:15pm in Northside 245 for a watch party of "Improving Course Accessibility: Introduction to Anthology Ally!" After the webinar ends at 11:45am, we'll have time to explore Ally within your own courses and answer your specific accessibility questions. Prefer to join the workshop on your own? Register for this or any of the other upcoming Ally workshops.

Teaching for Student Success Institute - Active Learning

Join your colleagues in working through the Teaching for Student Success Active Learning Modules. Building on what we've learned through efforts like IU's Mosaic Initiative, the active learning modules address day-to-day practices that help both instructors and students engage meaningfully in active learning classrooms. These modules cover a variety of contexts, from simple active learning strategies focused on reading, note-taking, and information literacy to high-impact educational practices and extensive collaborative projects. This online institute is being led by the UCET Assistant Director, Jay VanderVeen.

Spring Book Groups - sign up by January 20th

Email ucet@iusb.edu by January 20th if you are interested in joining any of the following book groups. Meeting schedule will be determined by participants.

Distracted: Why Students Can't Focus and What You Can Do About It

Led by AJ Schmitz. In Distracted, Lang rethinks the practice of teaching, revealing how educators can structure their classrooms less as distraction-free zones and more as environments where they can actively cultivate their students' attention.

Relationship-Rich Education: How Human Connections Drive Success in College

Led by Cati Hebert-Annis. What single factor makes for an excellent college education? As it turns out, it's pretty simple: human relationships. In Relationship-Rich Education, Felten and Lambert demonstrate that for relationships to be central in undergraduate education, colleges and universities do not require immense resources, privileged students, or specially qualified faculty and staff.

The Peak Performing Professor: A Practical Guide to Productivity and Happiness

Led by Carolyn Schult. Feeling stressed and overcommitted? This book group will help you focus your goals and find balance in your life. The Peak Performing Professor is filled with techniques, strategies, and practical tools for managing the complexities of academic life while maximizing professional potential.
