Spoken Cycles  Summer Series Information
January - March 2023

Register Online

Hi Everyone,

Happy New Year to you all - hope you managed to get in some quality time on the bike and are raring to go for the next Summer Series of racing!

We kick off on Tuesday 10th of January with nine weeks of road racing and finish with a time trial on Tuesday 14th of March. It looks as if we'll be based at Puahue School for the first few weeks of the series as the road surface near the dairy on the Kakepuku circuit required further patching after the recent spell of hot temperatures. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and we'll keep you regularly updated.

For those of you who have regularly raced the Summer Series and don't need to read the fine print, the link for online registration is -  https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/228215     This will close off on Sunday 8th January to give me time to sort the start sheets.

For new riders (or those with time on their hands), detailed information with all the Ts & Cs is below:

Weeks 1-9 will be Graded Road Races (A – F Grades) using the Kakepuku Mountain circuit (approx 26 km for Grades and 12 km for U15s) or Puahue School Circuit (approx 32km for Grades and 16km for U15s). Please select the grade most appropriate for your ability - after Week 3 of the Series, riders cannot switch grades without first discussing this with us at registration.  Please see us if you are unsure which grade is best for you.

Registration opens at our shed next to the velodrome on Armstrong Ave, Te Awamutu or at Puahue School at 5.30 pm with Under 15s (approx 12km) starting at 6 pm and Grades (26km) starting at 6.25 pm. Week 10 will be an individual time trial with the course confirmed later in the series.

Entry Fees:
The cost is $15 per race for Grades but TA Sports Cycling members and associates can take advantage of a substantial saving by prepaying for the entire 10-week series for  $100.  U15 entry fees are $2 per race or $15 for the series.

If you wish to pay for the entire ten-week series, you can deposit your series payment into our account via internet banking, pay using your Visa when completing the form or bring your payment to registration in Week 1.  If paying by internet banking,  please clearly reference this deposit with your name and S.Series  - the account number is 12 3134 0062913 00   We have made a note of those who won a Free Series Pass at the Christmas prizegiving and we'll update the start sheets to show this.

Membership:
If you haven’t yet applied for your 2023 Cycling NZ licence you'll need to get it organised in order to race the Summer Series.  The Cycling New Zealand Membership portal is up and running for 2023 memberships  (1 Jan – 31 Dec  2023).   So head to their website to sort your membership:
 https://www.cyclingnewzealand.nz/clubs-and-membership/becoming-a-member-2/
There are a number of membership options so read the info carefully and choose the level of membership that best suits you.

Timing System:
Please note the following points regarding the use of the timing system:

1) Riders will be issued with a transponder and a number when they register each night – both will need to be returned to the cycling shed at the end of the race.

 2)  If you don’t have a transponder holder on your bike, we’ll issue you with one at registration – please keep it on your bike as we’ll only have sufficient holders for new riders from  Week 2 onwards.

3)  If you lose your transponder, the fee is $20 payable to Dynamo Events.

SAFETY FIRST:
A reminder that rider safety is a priority for us - not only do we want our riders to be safe but we don't want our racing shut down should an incident occur.  Marshalls in each bunch will do their best to ensure that riders adhere to the rules and will be reporting back to us at the finish line if they witness deliberate, reckless, and intentional crossing of the white line.

Further Points  to Note:

Points will be awarded to the first 15 riders across the finish line with each rider from No. 16 onwards receiving a point for finishing the race.

Club members who complete 9 or 10 races will go into a prize draw at the conclusion of the series - this will be awarded at the Prizegiving on the 14th of March.

Women’s Points:  Female riders will receive points along with the males (Top 15 across the line).  The top 3 female riders in each grade (provided they’ve competed in at least 5 races and are TA Sports Club Members) will be awarded prizes at the end of series prize giving.

Cambridge riders are to meet at the Cycleway corner by 5.10 pm if they wish to bike over together.  The group will be split if there are too many riders.

Riders must have adequate lighting on their bikes to participate in the Summer Series – it is vital you have lights on your bike for those biking home to Cambridge and Hamilton.

Melinda
