Candidates running for Chicago Mayor, and candidates running for suburban elections for Mayor, Trustee, Township, park district and school board offices are invited to attend and share their experience with the community.
There are many important races in the Chicagoland suburbs including in Orland Park where Mohamed Jaber is slated to become the first Arab American candidate on the District 230 School Board, serving Palos, Orland Park and Tinley Park. We have mayors joining us like Mary Basta, the mayor of Bolingbrook, and Arab American candidates seeking seats on local school boards including in District 118.
This is an opportunity to take a stand against the racism of Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot who targeted Arab American owned gasoline stations and stores in Chicago in 2021, forcing as many as 50 to close their doors because of street gang violence that was unrelated to their businesses. The violence occurred near their properties and the closures were designed to make it look like Mayor Lightfoot was "taking action."
