Microwave or Crockpot

January 24, 2023

Listen Now

As the primary fixer of meals in our home, I have found ways to make meal prep easier. The microwave is wonderful when pressed for time. I use the crockpot to have dinner waiting for us at the end of a busy day.

Recently, I came across this quote from Bob Goff: "I keep putting things in the microwave, and God keeps putting them back in the crockpot. Whatever is distracting you, give it a little time."

Oh my. That stopped me in my tracks. I often want God to be a microwave to fix things in me and my life in 90 seconds or less. But often, there are lessons to be learned and changes to be made that only time and patience can teach me.

Elijah learned about waiting on God when famine and drought came to the land of Israel because of their sins. First, ravens brought him food while he lived by a brook and when that dried up, God directed him to a widow and her son, who were willing to share their last meal with him. God didn't give them enough food to outlast the famine all at once, but every day there was enough for them to eat. Elijah learned much about God's provision and care for His children during this time, enough to ask God to bring the son back to life for his mother.

What area of your life are you waiting for God to fix? Do you keep trying to hurry things along, or are you waiting patiently for His provision? Stop trying to fix things yourself and let Him do it for you. He will do far more than you ever expected.
