It is said that in some far-away and mysterious location lies a kingdom of great spirituality and power: Shambhala. For many nowadays, the word Shambhala itself evokes all sorts of romantic and fantastical ideas. But, what really is Shambhala? And where might it be found? In this newsletter, we look past the myths of this blissful abode and explore Shambhala and its very interesting history.

Originating from both Hindu and Buddhist sources, Shambhala is described extensively in the Kalachakra texts. Luckily, our very own Dr. Alexander Berzin is one of the world's leading experts on Kalachakra, so we're delighted to share with you two of his articles providing insight into the legend of Shambhala.

Firstly, we have Shambhala: Myths and Reality, which examines a variety of different understandings of Shambhala from traditional Buddhist texts as well as more recent ideas propagated by European mysticism. Then, we share The Nazi Connection with Shambhala and Tibet, which explores the Nazi party's convoluted occult beliefs and fascination with Tibet, putting them into context historically. Finally, we want to direct you to The Search for Shambhala, a video from our interview with Jhado Rinpoche, one of the world's most eminent Kalachakra masters. In the video, Jhado Rinpoche explores Shambhala and discusses possible evidence of its existence as a physical place on earth.
