The Water Institute and SWIGS are excited to announce that World Water Day is back and in person this year! We have exciting events planned examining the past and future of water for this year's theme: Accelerating Change. See below for details on preliminary events and volunteer opportunities.

SWIGS presents: CV database for networking on World Water Day!

SWIGS is launching a CV database to connect students with employers on World Water Day! The database will allow prospective employers to connect with students through scheduled interviews in the afternoon on World Water Day. 

The database will be accepting CV uploads from students until February 17.
Stay tuned for the next newsletter for a link to the database. 
SWIGS is offering a CV workshop on Monday, January 30th at 2pm to help get your CVs in order and prepare for networking throughout World Water Day.

Volunteers Needed for World Water Day!

SWIGS is looking for volunteers on March 22nd to help facilitate World Water Day, including:
  • A photographer
  • A videographer
  • Two student moderators to facilitate discussions between panelists/speakers
  • General volunteers in the morning and afternoon to help with registration and/or setting up lunch

This week's Writing Café will feature small-group peer review of your proposal and offer a chance to speak with past scholarship winners about their application experience. Remember to bring your proposal!

Vote to Approve SWIGS Long-form Name Change

The current SWIGS Executive Team - in consultation with past SWIGS Chairs - is proposing to update the longform name of SWIGS from:
 
"Students of the Water Institute Graduate Section (SWIGS)"
to:
"Society of the Water Institute Graduate Students (SWIGS)"

This updated name is the same length as the original and maintains the SWIGS acronym, but better reflects the identity of SWIGS and its members.

Webinar: 'Acing your Hydrogeology Interview' with industry professionals









 
Early Career Hydrogeologists' Network (ECHN) presents Acing Your Hydrogeology Interview Webinar, which will take place Thursday January 26th at 12-1pm EST. If you are a student, recent graduate on the job hunt, or are interested in learning about interview tips from industry professionals, this webinar is for you!

The three invited speakers from Stantec, WSP Golder, and GW Solutions, will discuss what they look for from a hydrogeologist candidate during the interview process and host a brief Q&A period.

Registration for the Global Map the System 2023 competition is now open! Students have until January 31 to register for this competition for a chance to win up to $2,000 in cash prizes and compete at the virtual Canadian Final and Global Final at Oxford University, UK. In Map the System, students learn how to explore, probe, and research complex social or environmental issues, using Systems Thinking tools and approaches. This competition is open to both undergrad and grad students.
