The Gospel: Matthew

The Gospel which means "good news" brings us the good news of Jesus and his love for the whole world. The four gospel stories of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John provide us a blessed picture of who Jesus is and how he is working in the world. This Sunday we begin our new sermon series by exploring the Gospel of Matthew which seeks to connect the old to the new in Jesus Christ.

Prayer of Inviting

Lord Jesus,
In the midst of our lives,
You called us into your love and ministry,
Jesus, we often ask, "who me?" when called,
We often wonder if we are worthy,
Remind us each day that you love the whole of us,
That you gave us gifts that we may share them,
We thank you each day for inviting us to the table,
It is in your precious name we pray,
Amen.

Mission Sunday Highlights

The Mission team would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who helped make last Mission Sunday such a great success. We made several lunches and health kits for the unhoused in the Arlington/Alexandria area. Mission Sunday falls on the 4th Sunday of the month and is a wonderful time for volunteers of all ages to join in local ministry.

Exciting News from Beth

WELCOME ABRAHAM BISHOP! Beth and Mike Posey are proud grandparents again!  Welcome to Abraham, originally from Haiti, to Katie and Chris Bishop’s family. Sisters Eden and Bethany are being exceptional, as usual.  Thank you for your many, many years of prayers and support, and we would ask for continued prayers as this family unit settles in! God is GOOD!

Around the Fire Pit

It was a great joy to celebrate God outdoors last Sunday during the 9am service. Gathering around the outdoor fire pits offered a unique worship opportunity for members of the community. We will continue to host outdoor worship opportunities in the new year with the next one taking place in February.

"The reverend John W. Townsend was named as pastor at the 1926 Conference. At a membership meeting held on February 23, 1927 a committee was appointed to prepare plans for a parsonage. A lot adjoining the church property was purchased and on November 15, 1927, the new house completely furnished was occupied for the first time by the parsonage family. The cost was $6,000."
