Welcome to February
British journalist and writer Satham Sanghera recently tweeted - ‘My feed is joyful today…lots of people talking about how libraries changed their lives… agencies of literacy, social mobility, integration [and] humanity.’ In that short sentence he eloquently encapsulated the heart of public libraries.
February 14 is Library Lovers Day with the theme this year being ‘Only You’ (the song should start playing in your head just about now.) Our library patrons are our most ardent supporters and advocates, so this month we are asking you to tell us what is unique about library service? There will be in-house activities with prizes on offer, so have a think and engage in the fun.
This month we are launching a delightful new activity, Just Write, Just Play for ages 12 to adult, providing a space for journalling and writing, a creative practice known to be beneficial in promoting wellbeing. See newsletter for details.
With our marvellous Community Development colleagues, a series of healthy lifestyle events are on offer for older adults and we are delighted to be hosting an in-conversation event with the eminently talented Dianne Wolfer discussing the new stage production of The Lighthouse Girl.
With the new school year off and running, our junior activities including Splish Splash Storytime and LEGO Club recommence this month, see below for details.
