Community String Art

Throughout January adults and children alike have been popping into Big Sky Stories to add their stringy mark on this large sign. Thanks to everyone who has participated - we’re nearly finished!

Multi Arts

During the holidays Big Sky Stories has offered multi-arts workshops for primary children aged 5-7 and 7-12 involving drama and drawing and imaginative writing. Children have described these as ‘lots of fun’ and ‘cool’. Jane Vaughan and Robyn Ewing used the legend of the green children as well as some great books, Who’s afraid of the big bad book (Lauren Child) and The duck and the darkling (Glenda Millard and Stephen Michael King) as the starting point for learning about freeze frames, hotseating and earsdropping in developing our own stories.

Knot for profit with a purpose

As a social enterprise business, profits from adult macrame workshops contribute to keeping the lights on, the landlord happy and the staff paid. This means that we can continue to work towards our social purpose.

January saw a big contribution with 4 workshops, 27 individual attendees (some attending multiple times!), countless knots and lots of fun.

Creative Teaching Workshop

What does it mean to teach creatively? In this practical workshop Robyn Ewing will draw on current research to explore integrating creative arts strategies with the teaching of English and literacy to ensure learners are engaged and actively involved in their literacy learning.

Formerly a primary teacher, Robyn Ewing AM is Professor Emerita, University of Sydney and Co-Director of the CREATE Centre, University of Sydney. She is passionate about the role of the arts in our lives and learning.

For both early career and experienced teachers.

WestWords Holiday Program

Monday 30 January - Wednesday 1 February

In our third school holiday working in partnership with WestWords we will be joined by filmmakers Glenn Fraser and Amelia Foxton who will share their creative writing talent with young people aged 11 years + over 3 workshops. Participants will use role-playing activities to develop character and story-lines in their writing. Completed pieces will be gathered together for an anthology of writing to be published for the Easter holiday workshops. There are still a few spaces so let us know if you'd like to join us!
