It was love that lured New Orleans-born John Creighton to Australia, where his love of Highlands wildlife has since led to decades of devoted care for our Shire’s bare-nosed wombats. A local legend, affectionately known as ’The Wombat man’, John has been recognised as this year’s Citizen of the Year.

You know CPR, but where's the closest defibrillator? Reducing the time it takes to locate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is key.

If an AED is applied to a sudden cardiac arrest victim within the first minute of collapse, their chance of survival is 90%.

Australia Day -
new beginnings 

January 26 was a big day in more ways than one for our Shire. Berrima made a fresh start with the return of Australia Day celebrations.

We welcomed 50 new citizens, 50 classic cars rolled into town and thousands joined the celebrations.

More than
just a shed

Could you do with some solid mate-ship and mentoring? The new Colo Vale Mens’ Shed will be worth a drop-in. The Men’s Shed movement started in Australia as a way of enhancing wellbeing in our communities. $130,000 has been invested in making this a local hub for finding company and keeping busy.

Away with your bulky waste

Looking to get your house back in order after the Christmas and holiday season chaos?  We’re here to help!  Our second annual bulky waste collection service kicks off in Bundanoon, Penrose and Wingello next week. Items can be placed out on your kerbside from this Sunday 29 January.

Contractors are due to commence construction works on Old South Road, between Bong Bong and Range Roads, from Monday 6 February.
