The Boy with Four Names by Doris Rubenstein is the story of one family, and one boy who ended up with four names. Between 1933 and the end of World War II, over 3,000 Jews from countries all across Europe fled to find freedom and safety in Ecuador. Some left for the U.S. or Israel after five or ten years. Others decided to make it their permanent home. Today, there are less than 1,000 Jews still living in Ecuador. Why did they decide to stay? Each family’s story is different. Order your copy today.

Twin Cities journalist  Elisa Bernick introduces readers to Departure Stories (Indiana University Press), her story, surveys her experiences growing up  "different" (Jewish) in the Christian suburb of New Hope, Minnesota during the 1960s and early '70s. Departure Stories peers through the broader lens of Minnesota's recent history to reveal an intergenerational journey through trauma that unraveled the Bernick family and many others. Get your copy.
