Creative Kete retains the fundamentals of our Schools Education kaupapa, which is to help guide students through a process that allows them the freedom to make their own creative decisions while introducing new learning pathways into the process of artmaking.
Te Ao Maori is regularly acknowledged at the centre of our workshop development, which often incorporates indigenous technologies and craft techniques, atua, and other storytelling elements to explore aspects of NZ national and local history, culture and identity, in line with the New Zealand Education curriculum.

FEEDBACK for the Creative Kete #1 Re-imagining the Landscape:
"I just LOVE what you have done with your Creative Kete! My over-arching topic for this term is Turangawaewae, so this landscape painting will fit in beautifully.
 What do I love?
I love that you incorporate moving images/song/te reo.
The introduction to three contemporary artists.
Vocabulary used - close up and far away/ drips of globby paint/ looking far away into the hills.
Your titles for each section - Colour Map/ Mark Activation/ Finding Your Imaginary Landscape.
You made me laugh out loud as you lay in different positions looking at your artwork - tamariki will love this!
The sharing of the different art educator's pieces - like every one in our class will be different.
This video will certainly inspire those not so comfortable in the teaching of painting, but also inspire those with an imbedded love in this medium! (Like me!!) "

MORE FEEDBACK:
What did you find most successful about this method of teaching?
"Teacher professional development means I can take this lesson again with confidence. The step by step approach for the children Video lessons showing the process gave clear examples for the children."
Were there any challenges for you with this method of teaching?
"None at all- highly successful. I would love to do it again with the same children as I think they would make some significant changes the second time around"

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

At Corban Estate Arts Centre we are serious about the arts and the role it plays in education. We believe in passing on knowledge and skills to anyone who is interested and that means teachers as well as students.

In our Professional Development capacity, we develop workshops to suit your team's needs - covering a wide range of skills including Māori visual arts, acrylic or oil painting, printmaking, mixed media, construction and sculpture, and ceramics.

We can deliver individual masterclasses, a series of sessions over the term, or once-a-month all year long. Our professional development programme is diverse and multi-dimensional, and will offer teachers the opportunity to explore and experiment with techniques, materials and a broad range of outcomes.

Recently we had the pleasure of hosting teachers from Lincoln Heights for a professional development workshop in ceramics.
Throughout the 4-hour session, 31 teachers were shown various techniques in hand-building, joining, methods for creating textures, and colour application. Now armed with the knowledge and confidence to take these creative clay construction skills into their classrooms, we can't wait to see what their students at Lincoln Heights come up with later in the year.
Big ups to Lincoln Heights for investing in the professional and creative development of your awesome staff.
If you're interested in how we can embolden your team with confidence in teaching art, get in touch with our Schools Education team for a kōrero!
