Hello everyone,

I’m writing to invite you to join an upcoming event launching People Powered Elections Washington, a new coalition of organizations and advocates working together to expand the democracy voucher program that is transforming local politics in Seattle to state legislative elections across the state.

Our coalition is statewide, multi-racial, and multi-generational and we’re united in building a more equitable and transparent democracy, focusing on enacting democracy vouchers and other impactful campaign financing reforms so that our state government is responsive, representative, and reflective of all of us.

Please join us on Thursday, January 26th at 4pm PT for a virtual kick off event to learn more about the coalition, our 2023 legislative priorities, and the impacts democracy vouchers are having in strengthening everyday peoples’ voices in government and limiting the corrupting influence of wealthy donors and dark money groups.

We’re kicking off our coalition this year because now is a critical moment to advocate for statewide reform. This past election, voters in the city of Oakland, CA passed Measure W, a ballot measure that will create a democracy dollar program similar to the system already used in Seattle. And growing evidence continues to show that Seattle’s democracy voucher program is working – boosting voter and small-donor participation, increasing the number and diversity of candidates running for local office, and making campaign donors more reflective of the diversity and demographics of the city. Now is the time to push for a statewide program.

No matter what neighborhood you live in, the color of your skin, or how much money you make, we deserve a state government that works for all of us. But right now, our elected leaders spend more time listening to wealthy donors and powerful special interests than their constituents. It doesn’t have to be this way and we hope you will join us and learn more about how your organization can get involved.

Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you on January 26th.

Best,

Kenia Peregrino
