Book Drive Organizers
We match schools, organizations and individuals that agree to collect 1,000 gently used books and raise money to subsidize the cost of shipping with an approved library recipient. In turn, African Library Project supports book drive organizers with specific tools and methods to collect books and raise the funds for their book drive.

The Libraries
Our local partners oversee project implementation and train teacher-librarians on how to set up and run a library. We follow up to evaluate each project and encourage good library practices so that donated books reach those who need them most.

About Education in Ghana & Malawi
|
|
|
Ghana
Ghana has one of the highest school enrollment rates in West Africa, with 82% of school-aged children attending school. Despite this, there are about a half of a million children who are not in school due to lack of resources. All classes in Ghanaian schools are taught in English. African Library Project has been active in Ghana since partnering with the Michael Lapsley Foundation in 2011.

Malawi
School enrollment has historically been low. However, in 1994, free primary education for all children was introduced and enrollment in primary schools nearly tripled. Wungwero Book Foundation (WBF) initiated a partnership with the African Library Project in 2008. WBF was soon joined by DAPP Malawi, Malawi Institute of Education, and University of Malawi – Chancellor College Library as ALP Partners. Together, the organizations evaluate and monitor the libraries in Malawi.
