Greetings from Wyler Antiques!!

We hope that everyone is enjoying the New Year!!

In today's Announcement, we are going to be discussing the beauty of Bowls as they can create a very warm, elegant, and sophisticated look. Bowls have been made in various sizes and designs and are often used as centerpieces for a table as well as a decorative objects.

We will be discussing the smallest bowls first but here are some facts that you may or may not know about Silver Bowls.

  1. Bowls are predominately round but can sometimes be oval or oblong.
  2. The width of a bowl is generally greater than its height.
  3. They often reside on small pedestal feet just to raise them up slightly.
  4. Many Bowls were decorated with hand-chasing or engraving to reflect what they were used for e.g. flowers and fruit.

This very attractive Antique English Silver Small Bowl has wonderful detail work. Residing on a round pedestal base, this English Silver Bowl has two floral round cartouches. Above each cartouche, there is the Greek Key design which resonates around the bowl.

A very handsome American Sterling Silver Bowl has the "Etruscan" design. This pattern represents the Greco-Roman revival featuring a symmetrical design that includes a Greek Key. First produced in 1913, it is easy to see that "Etruscan" silverware was a forerunner for the Art Deco designs that would eventually follow.
A Waste or Slop Bowl (as it would have been called at that time) is part of a traditional tea set. It was used for emptying the cold tea and remaining tea leaves before refilling the cup. This lovely Antique English Porcelain Waste Bowl is decorated with small pink roses and green leaves in gilt diamond-shaped squares set on an orange background. Wonderful gilt borders which surround this design are on both sides.

A very elegant and handsome Antique English Silver Bowl on a Stand. One of the nice attributes of this particular piece is that the bowl can be used on its stand or displayed on its own due to its flat base.

A lovely Antique English Porcelain Spode Waste Bowl with a gilt design. Interspersed is an orange band that has gilt on both sides of it. There is a gilt border also at the top and at the bottom of the piece. One of the attributes that make this bowl quite desirable is that it is marked.

This exquisite Antique Chinese Export Famille Rose Bowl is quite lovely with its colors and design. Pink, white and blue flowers as well as green leaves are quite striking and resonate throughout this bowl. Whether it is filled with flowers or standing on its own, this bowl creates a special feeling and would always look lovely wherever it may be placed.
Who wouldn't love to have this Antique George III English Silver Two-Handled Bowl in their home? A very attractive Silver Bowl with floral and scroll decoration resonates throughout the exterior of the piece. It has a gilt interior called vermeil (gold wash). Vermeil refers to a thin layer of gold foil that has been used to give the impression of solid gold. The bowl has exceptional workmanship exemplified by the figural handles which help make this piece look very important as well as quite special.
