Reading Activities

Talking While You Read

When you read together, talk with your child about the book. Talking develops your child’s vocabulary and understanding of the book. Choose a book that your child enjoys. First, read the entire book to your child, then read the book again, stop and talk throughout the book using PEER.

Fishing for Plurals

Vocabulary refers to knowledge about the meanings, uses, and pronunciation of words. Vocabulary is often categorized as oral vocabulary (listening and speaking) and print vocabulary (reading and writing). The goal of vocabulary instruction is to provide students with an understanding of the meaning and use of words so that they can comprehend what they are reading and communicate effectively. This activity will help your child identify and use regular and irregular plurals.
