Greetings Forest Park Students and Families,

I look forward to returning this Friday (01/20), after recovering from hernia surgery last Friday.  I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend and that, midway through this week, all is going smoothly.  Thank you families for the support you provide that helps promote joyful learning experiences.  Check out FOFPE's contribution (below) for details about how you can support and some expected outcomes.

Next Monday, families can expect to recieve directions about, and access to participate in, the annual Successful Schools Survey.  This survey provides opportunities for students and families to communicate with your school and district about learning/teaching experiences.  Students will take the survey at school, families can take it anytime between January 23rd and February 10th. Please visit this PPS webpage to learn more about the upcoming survey.  We want to hear each student’s, each family’s, and each stakeholder’s voice.  We use this information at the school and district levels to inform how we better serve students and their families in our community.  I will email and text access starting Monday, January 23rd; thank you in advance for participating!

With joy and excitement, Dr. Martini

Hello Forest Park Community,
How is that Growth Mindset coming along? Have you noticed when you are hard on yourself? Have you noticed being a bit hard on your student? It’s hard to change our thinking, but we can try! The first step is to see and be aware of our review.

Why is Growth Mindset Important? Holding a fixed or growth mindset has an enormous impact on motivation. The side effect of the fixed mindset is a helpless or apathetic attitude toward effort — especially when it comes to challenging tasks. If you think you can do it or learn it, you can (with the action, of course)! It’s that simple.

How can it help my child? Research has shown that children with a growth mindset do better in school. Where there is motivation to try new things, keep learning difficult tasks, & not give up when things get hard, there is huge success.

On one side–fixed mindset- you will avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as worthless, and stunt your own growth. On the other hand, a growth mindset can make one embrace challenges, persist when things get hard, and know that the effort one puts in is part of mastering tasks. Think about learning to read, tie a shoe, or even walk.

Please encourage your students to keep trying and believe in themselves when things get complicated. They have already done so many hard things!
