Incident Type: Tractor trailer fire

Address / location of incident: Leslie Street, Newmarket
Description: Central York Fire Services (CYFS) responded to a tractor trailer fire in a field off of Leslie Street near Crowder Blvd. on Wednesday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews reported black smoke and fire. First in crew established a water supply from a nearby hydrant which temporarily shut down both north and southbound lanes on Leslie Street. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire which damaged the trailer. The trailer was not occupied at the time of the incident. The tractor trailer was located near a Bell Cell Tower which was not damaged by the fire.
Cause of incident: Accidental electrical fire
Casualties / Injuries: None.
Community Impact: Leslie Street was temporarily closed from Mulock Drive to Crowder Blvd during the incident.
Current Status: CYFS have fully extinguished the fire.
Resources Used: CYFS deployed three fire trucks and one command vehicle to the scene. CYFS worked in collaboration with York Paramedic Services, York Regional Police and Bell.
