Sermon: That All May Be one
Jesus earnestly desires for the unity of peoples and the church so that the world might see the hallmark of God’s love at work in our lives. Our unity of heart is evidence of the love and ministry of God in Christ.

Music This Week
The first anthem speaks to the reason that the worldwide Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is always held in the Epiphany season - and once again hints at the tradition of the Magi who visited Jesus at his birth. An adaptation of a traditional morning responsive canticle for Epiphany, "Arise, Shine O Jerusalem" affirms God’s sovereignty over the kings and nations of our own creation - and in what might seem like a somewhat utopian prediction, suggests that all will unite in tribute. An anthemic expression of the perhaps quaint, but inspiring and more aspirational image of a world united in praise of God, George Herbert’s “Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing” is best known in choir circles as the closing movement of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Five Mystical Songs” on Herbert texts. I hope you enjoy this lesser-known setting of Arthur Somerwell, which I first learned from our Choir Library, and has become a traditional favourite here at Rosedale on this Sunday.

Coffee Hour Hosts RPC's "coffee hour" is important to building our community. If you are willing to serve coffee, tea and a few treats, there are sign up sheets in the Great Hall or you can contact the office (rpcoffice1@gmail.com) with dates you are available.

Evangel Hall On January 29 our church will serve the Sunday Community Dinner. The menu will be Beef Stew with potatoes, a salad, a roll with butter, and squares for dessert. We invite you to prepare the beef stew in advance at home, and/or some of your best squares or small muffins. Signup lists, as well as a copy of the recipe will be available at coffee hour or by speaking to Annemiek Miller (annemiekmariamiller@gmail.com).

The St. James Town Homework Club is seeking several volunteers to help primary school children with school work any week day afternoon from 3:00 until 5:30. If you are interested but are reluctant to take on a weekly commitment we are also seeking substitute volunteers who could fill in for a regular volunteer when they are on holidays, or otherwise unable to be present. This could mean helping out a few days a month, as is possible for you. Please speak to Marjorie Ross (mj.ross@rogers.com) or Annemiek Miller (annemiekmariamiller@gmail.com).

Bible Conversations on Monday, January 23 at 4:00 pm by Zoom. Our current topic of study is the Pentateuch. This group is an opportunity to discuss our faith in relation to the Bible and the history of the church. This programme will provide an opportunity to consider people’s questions or problems concerning the Bible or Christianity, as we try and understand the Bible in its cultural and historical context and how that may be translated into significant meaning for the 21st century. If you would like to participate in this group, please contact the Rev. Daniel Cho (rosedalerev@gmail.com).

Globe and Faith on Wednesday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. Join us for a discussion of current events. Regular members of the group will automatically receive the information required to join the Zoom call. If you are not a regular attender, but would like to join in this week, please contact Gerry Kraay at gerrykraay@gmail.com

Our Mission We witness to Christ in our spiritual vitality and in our social involvement by nurturing all in the Christian life, communicating the gospel to our community, and inspiring faithful devotion & service.

Our Vision We seek to be a vital, growing community of faith, with a glad and generous heart, that shares the blessings of the Christian life.

Statement of Inclusion Rosedale Presbyterian Church welcomes and fully includes all people regardless of nationality, race, physical or developmental challenges, sexual orientation or gender identity.

Our shared Land ... as we gather together, we acknowledge this sacred land on which Rosedale Presbyterian Church resides and worships. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron-Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississauga of the Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to worship on this territory today.
