From the Principal's Desk

I am very excited about 2023 and looking forward to your children’s achievements.  There are so many opportunities this year to become involved, and every learner will be able to find activities to be excited about.  Teaching and learning have already started so that everyone can maximise their potential.  I reminded the learners in the assembly that they must use the time in lessons and constantly ask questions until they understand the topic.  The educators are there to help them succeed, so it is essential that they build relationships and continuously seek answers.

This year we will focus our energy on the good things we do and celebrate these.  We will do everything we can to ensure those who want to be part of the journey are given the lion's share of our energy.  RGHS is an amazing school with incredible opportunities and people.  Make the most of the time while involved here!

We are very proud of our NSC matric results as we celebrated with the Es of 2022 and their parents today when they came to collect their certificates. Please read more about our matric results in the news section of this bulletin.

Special congratulations go to Kelly Prowse, who is our top achiever and also the Joint Top NSC Achiever (Public School) in the country as well as the top learner in Mathematics.

“To become a happy person have a clean soul, eyes that see romance in the commonplace, a child’s heart, and spiritual simplicity.”

Parent House Meetings

These meetings are for your child’s Head of House and Tutor to meet you and give some vital information for the year. We will also be acknowledging the 2022 academic achievements of our students by awarding various certificates and prizes.

After the house meetings, separate Grade 8 and Grade 12 meetings will take place where important grade specific matters will be discussed. Grade 9 to 11 parents will meet with Tutors.

It is therefore imperative that at least one parent/guardian from every family attends, along with their child. If you are unable to attend, please communicate this with your child’s tutor beforehand. It is compulsory for all the pupils to attend and to be dressed in their school uniform. Parents are encouraged to wear the house colours.

You are most welcome to join us for refreshments before the House meeting, from 17:30 onwards.

UNIFORM AND HAIR

Please take note that all pupils must have the correct uniform by the latest Monday, 23 January.
Remember our hair regulations clearly state that Grade 8 to 11 pupils “may not alter the colour of their hair in any way”. This includes highlighting, dyeing, the colour of braids, etc.

LATE COMING

All pupils must be in their tutor class no later than 07:50 every day (and 08:20 on a Wednesday). We will be monitoring late-coming very closely from this year and there will be consequences for those who are regularly late.

Donations for our 129th Birthday Celebrations

A reminder to parents, who are able to donate any sweet treats or savoury items for the school birthday, to please complete the form by 26 January 2023.
