Empowering Black Women in Tech
February is Black History Month, and WWCode is celebrating Black women in tech all month long. The tech industry would not be where it is today without the contributions of brilliant Black women both past and present, including the women in our community. Trailblazers like Katherine Johnson, who pioneered the use of computer calculations at NASA or Gladys Mae West, whose mathematical modeling of Earth became the GPS technology we know today.
Black women continue to pioneer innovative solutions in tech. Technologists like Jessica Matthews, founder of renewable energy startup Uncharted Power, brings energy to underserved areas. Chanelle Hardy, Head of Civil and Human Rights at Google, founded the Google Next Gen Policy Leadership Program to diversify tech policies. Ashley Jane Lewis, Creative Technologist, crosses biology and tech and uses slime molds to demonstrate societal structural inequalities.

Empowering Diversity
Diversity means having a community of individuals from different backgrounds, races, sexuality, interests, experiences, tech stacks, and coding languages. Innovation and growth occurs where diversity is supported. You empower diversity by adding your unique experience and representation to the tech industry. Your contributions and diverse perspectives are valued and celebrated.
WWCode empowers diverse voices in tech in many ways including the upcoming virtual dev conference, WWCode CONNECT Empower. Expect a lineup of diverse technologists that will provide thoughtful presentations and resources to help grow your career.

We're 30 days into 2023, and as a nation, instead of celebrating hopes, dreams, and goals for the new year, we find ourselves yet again mourning, shaken, and heartbroken —

As we strive for greater equality in society, it is critical that we do not overlook the racial inequities that persist in the tech industry. Tech Highlights: Black Women in Tech
During the month of February, WWCode is highlighting Black women in tech. Today, Black women hold only 3% of tech jobs and are often underpaid, overlooked for promotions, and encouraged to dilute themselves into a white male dominated industry. WWCode knows that empowering Black women technologists creates a more innovative and diverse tech industry.
This week we are highlighting sessions from our YouTube channel that discuss the importance of elevating Black women’s voices in tech.
