Issue 1.4 •  Winter 2023

Greetings from the North Country

by Cliff Thompson

Greetings! I write to you from the balmy north where a nice afternoon of grilling out is only ever a coat and a snow shovel away. In all seriousness, winter has been relatively mild thus far here in Plattsburgh, NY and we have been blessed to have no weather related church cancellations yet this year.  Both my family and Bread of Life Baptist Church are profoundly grateful for the continued prayers, support, and encouragement coming from the Cornerstone Network. Thank you all for being a part of the good work God is doing here and showing such love for all of us in countless ways.

Ministry here at the church continues to be in full swing. Logan and I just finished a Sunday School series teaching through the Doctrines of God and are due to start in on Ecclesiology at the beginning of February. Logan and I would appreciate your prayers, as we hope and pray that this class will be used by the Lord as instrumental in continuing to grow Bread of Life into healthy, biblical church structure and practice. As you may have heard at the Cornerstone Network Conference, the church has already seen significant progress including the introduction of a church covenant earlier this year. Elsewhere, although we are not quite as well-organized as one Lee Tankersley, steady progress continues on expositional preaching through the entire Bible with the latest being Logan’s series on James. We even saw the return of the candlelight service on Christmas Eve a few weeks ago and the fire stayed entirely where it was meant to. God continues to bless the church in myriad ways and a week doesn’t go by that we don’t see the Lord’s continued grace towards us even when things are challenging.

Speaking of challenge, the North Country continues to be one of the most spiritually dark regions in the U.S. with few healthy churches and a pervasive, corrosive secular culture.  If you would, continue to pray for the Lord to bless the proclamation of the gospel here both in our little corner of NY and also throughout all the Northeast; revival is very badly needed. Pray that the members of BOLBC would flourish spiritually even in the midst of government, schools, professionals, and peers who largely shun the things of the Lord.  In addition, please pray that Bread of Life would be faithful in all aspects of the Great Commission, and that the Lord would continue to grow Bread of Life into a unified, healthy local church exemplified by our love for the Lord and for each other. Pray that all those in pastoral ministry here would continue to faithfully preach and teach the Word, and have wisdom and grace to shepherd well the churches of the Northeast day to day. Thank you for taking the time to pray for us; I can hardly wait to see what wonders the Lord will bring to pass in 2023.

Blessings to all my brothers and sisters in Christ,
Cliff Thompson II   Eph. 3:20-21
