Parkville Achieves Communities for All Ages Silver Level Recognition
The City of Parkville is pleased to announce that it has achieved the Communities for All Ages Silver Level Recognition. The City was presented a certificate by the Mid-America Regional Council at the Board of Aldermen meeting on January 17.
The City is participating in a regional initiative to make communities more age-friendly. Studies have shown that the senior population will greatly increase over the next 20 years. The initiative will help the City plan for this shift in demographics, better prepare for the future, continue serving resident’s needs and promote healthy living for residents of all ages.
To earn the Silver Level Recognition, Parkville’s steering committee (i.e. members of the Planning and Zoning Commission) convened five meetings that covered topics ranging from:
Public Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
Housing and Commercial Development
Transportation
Social Inclusion, Communication and Participation
Civic Participation and Employment
Community and Health Services
Through this process, the Steering Committee developed a list of recommended policies and actions for City staff to pursue over the next few years in order to advance our initiative to make Parkville a great places to live for all ages in the community.
A community can earn each of the three levels of recognition representing the extent of its work in becoming a Community for All Ages. The three levels are Bronze (awareness), Silver (assessment) and Gold (implementation). The City received the Bronze Level recognition in January 2020.
Parkville will be one of four Kansas City region cities that will be recognized at an event on January 20.
