"The Walk: Grow"

Psalm 119:97, 103-105
Colossians 3:16-17

It's good to be a fan of Jesus. But it's even better to be a follower. As we learn to become better disciples, we follow five essential practices: worship, grow, serve, give, and invite. This week, we turn our attention to growing in our faith by studying the Bible and learning from each other in small groups. How does growing together make us more faithful in following Jesus?

Every February, Church of the Saviour observes Black History Month with celebration and learning. This year, our goal is to highlight personal stories from our COTS community of all races related to American history through the Black life experience.

Can you recall a story or event that made an impact on you—something you experienced personally or that you heard from a parent, grandparent, or other acquaintance? If so, would you be willing to share your brief story (3 or 4 minutes) in a Sunday service in February?

Ethnicity is not a criterion for storytellers, but the story’s subject matter must relate to a connection with a person of African ancestry, directly or indirectly. Stories must be put in writing and submitted for review, and we pray that you would be willing to tell your story within our congregation. If not, with your permission, we would have a reader tell your story for you.

In addition, if we receive more stories than we can use, our plan is to record them to share with the congregation through our electronic platforms.

We are also seeking to display family artifacts, memorabilia, old pictures that tell a story, books, or other objects of historical value to your family or culture (photos should be copied for display use so that originals are not damaged by handling and light exposure).

If you have a story or object to share, please contact Sharon Sudberry at 216-256-4182 or henrysgirl@att.net. We look forward to hearing from you!
TNT
NEEDS YOU!

We want to extend the opportunity of preparing a simple meal for TNT to all. Volunteering to cook is a fun and fulfilling way to not only serve, but fellowship, with one another!  Specific directions are found by following this link to sign up.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration to support this exciting and growing ministry!

The annual Super Bowl of Caring food drive,
big game watch party, and chili cook-off return to COTS

Sunday, February 12 at 6pm

We will be collecting non-perishable food and donations for the Cory Hunger Center and the Heights Emergency Food Center on Sunday morning and evening. In addition to the food collection, bring your favorite chili or a side dish to share, your appetite, your love of football, commercials, and fellowship to the Great Hall. You do not have to love all these things to attend, but it will help!

ACTIVITY BLANKETS

Members of the Dementia Inclusion Task Force have been meeting once a month by Zoom. We are trying to facilitate an awareness of the needs of those affected by dementia within our congregation and also the community at large. Currently, we are focusing on education and church programming, adaptations for our building, and a resource list that is available in the church library. Becky Roberts has been chairing our group and we would welcome anyone who wishes to join us. Please call or email Becky if interested:  beckymet@sbcglobal.net

A frequent problem for those dealing with dementia is feeling restless about what to do with their hands. Several task force members have made activity blankets which are available free of charge at the office. These lap blankets are each a little different, but they feature zippers, buttons with buttonholes, small fidget toys, beads, and tactile fabrics and trims. If you think an activity blanket might help a friend or loved one, please contact Cris in the office.

A STUDY OF THE GOSPEL OF JOHN

The Seasons of Faith adult Sunday School class invite anyone interested to join us in our study of the Gospel According to John, starting on January 8th.

We are a small group who engage in interactive discussion. We meet at 11:00am in Room 121 (the Old Library) near the Reinberger entrance. All are welcome.
THE WALK

Church of the Saviour has five practices of discipleship: worship, grow, serve, give, and invite. These practices are the focus of our winter sermon series, but you can take it one step further by joining The Walk, a short-term small group focused on going deeper into these practices and discovering how they can be applied to your life.

Join us for this six-week study starting on Thursday, January 12th from 6:30-7:30pm. The Walk is recommended for all new members and is open to everyone in the congregation. Contact Rev. Amanda Moseng at amoseng@cotsumc.org  or click this link to sign up.
PAUL'S LETTER TO THE ROMANS
The Jesus Paul Never Knew

Romans is one of the most treasured writings in the New Testament. Written at the end of Paul's life, it summarizes much of his teaching and reflects the full maturity of his theology. But it also reveals some aspects of the Gospel that Paul wrestled with, even to the end. The Letter to the Romans in every generation has been extraordinarily difficult to understand. In the wrong hands and grossly misread, Paul’s writing has been used to justify pogroms, inquisitions, executions, and all manner of exclusion. This is why it is so important to study this testament of one man‘s faith. It helps us mature in our own faith expression.

Rev. Dr. Ken Chalker leads this four-week study January 12 - February 2 on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30, part of our Thursday Nights Together.
