Welcome to the CucCAP Chronicle

The CucCAP project is developing genomic resources to increase disease resistance in cucurbit crops for the cucurbit community. The CucCAP website provides news about CucCAP grant activity, cucurbit diseases, and cucurbit crop production to a broad audience including crop producers, plant pathologists, plant breeders, plant genome scientists, and vegetable extension specialists.

In a recent study, CucCAP scientists identified genetic factors underlying the giant fruit size of the mammoth group of Cucurbita maxima. This study provides insight into population differentiation and evolutionary origins of rare variants contributing to the giant fruit size of certain pumpkin varieties.

Early Career Scientist Spotlight | David E. Perla

David Perla is a graduate student in the Department of Plant Soil and Microbial Sciences at Michigan State University. David is working on a PhD under the guidance of his major professor, Dr. Mary Hausbeck. The objective of his research is to provide an option to manage Phytophthora blight of cucurbits.
