Jan 17 Meeting Recap
FILTH IN THE CHILDREN'S SECTION OF LIBRARIES
Our first speaker was Bonnie Wallace who was appointed to the Llano County Library Board after pornographic books were discovered in the Llano library. After a dozen books were moved from the children’s section to the adult section, seven radical leftists sued the County and Bonnie personally. This is an example of just how warped the left has become – they literally believe that it is imperative that young children be exposed to the perversions of pornography and the alternative lifestyles depicted in these books. Bonnie provided us with a list of about 900 books that have been showing up in the children's section of Texas libraries. The good piece of news that comes from this story is that Bonnie and an attorney named Jonathan Mitchell have crafted a "PROTECT OUR CHILDREN" ordinance that will protect children from this filth if the cities have the courage to enact them.
ACTION ITEMS from Bonnie:
Encourage our cities in Parker County to adopt this ordinance. Contact me if you are interested in getting the ordinance enacted in your city.
Scan the children's section in your library for the books on the list. Contact us if you are interested in helping with this. It is a huge task, but is attainable if the list is divided up.
As mentioned in our Jan 10 email, Republicans in the Texas House had a clear choice when they voted to elect the Speaker of the Texas House: Liberal Dade Phelan who openly campaigned to grant committee chairmanships to Democrats in spite of overwhelming opposition by Republican voters/constituents or conservative Tony Tinderholt who pledged to eliminate the practice and instead focus on passing the top legislative priorities of the Republican Party of Texas. Unfortunately, only three Republicans voted for Tony Tinderholt. All others joined the Democrats and voted for Dade Phelan. The courageous Republicans who dared to stand up to the Austin Swamp were State Reps Bryan Slaton, Tony Tinderholt and freshman Nate Schatzline. State Rep Glenn Rogers of our House District 60 voted for Dade Phelan (Phelan donated more than $305,000 to Rogers’ campaign during the last election cycle).
One of the first moves by newly re-elected Phelan was to set the Rules debate for Wednesday in order to shield his liberal Republican members from the hundreds (likely 1,000) of Republican activists who were widely-known to be coming down on Thursday (the expected day for the rules debate) to watch the vote on State Rep Bryan Slaton’s amendment to the Rules that would have banned the practice of granting chairmanships to the minority party.
When Rep Slaton offered his amendment, Phelan used a questionable and highly criticized parliamentary procedure that prevented the vote from even taking place. Reps Slaton and Tinderholt tried to gather ten signatures needed to officially challenge Speaker Phelan’s ruling but were only able to find six Reps courageous enough to sign: State Reps Slaton, Tinderholt, Shatzline, Harrison, Hayes and Dorazio. More than 17 Republicans had publicly announced that they were willing to vote for the ban on Democrat Chairmanships but were denied the opportunity to even cast their vote. Note: 86% of Parker County Republican primary voters supported a ban on Democrats chairing committees on the 2022 Republican primary ballot.
Please note that we are including several important links at the bottom of our emails for those who want to keep up to date with what is really happening in Austin, including watching the live-streams from the legislature and find contact info for your legislators.
FEB 7 SPECIAL AND MAY 6 LOCAL ELECTIONS
There is a special election to fill a City Council seat in Aledo on Feb 7. Conservative Duane Beck let us know why he is running for the seat. Click here for a sample ballot.
The filing period for the May 6 local elections is underway until Feb 17. We need to recruit conservatives to run for school board and city council. Please prayerfully consider running yourself or finding other conservatives to run.
