Dear Bradley Community,

We hope you are all enjoying this wonderful weekend. Today we celebrate the Lunar New Year. This coming week we will be led by our 2nd graders in Mrs. Flynn’s class during morning assembly.

We had a phenomenal week of learning at the Bradley. Our students in Grade 6 worked with our 1st graders on marble mazes, which they planned during Innovation. Our 4th graders did a recording of their production in Theater. First graders demonstrated they are becoming incredible writers, reporting their “weekend news” to their friends in class. Our K0/K1 students have been busy working on upper and lowercase letter correspondence while also building phonemic awareness through Heggerty practice.

The City of Boston team will present information about the BPS facilities planning initiative, the Green New Deal, at several schools in January and February. We highly encourage families to attend and to advocate for strategic upgrades to facilities across the city that will allow our students to engage learning in spaces that meet their needs. The first meeting will be hosted by the Eliot Upper School (585 Commercial Street, North End 02109). Please use this
registration link to sign up to attend. On Feb 21st, East Boston HS will host a similar event in Spanish.

Tomorrow we have our next School Family Council meeting at 6 PM. Please use the link posted below in the Family Council Corner, or the one we will post on Dojo!

School Choice Season has started. Registration for K0-K2 and 6, 7 and 9 is underway and will run until February 4th. All other grades have registration February 8th-April 7th. Please spread the word to families in the community who are interested in learning more about the Bradley. If there are some parents interested who would like to set up a 1:1 tour or meet with me or Carla, please have them email or call us.

ACCESS testing is underway for our multilingual learners. Students are tested across four domains—listening, reading, writing, and speaking. This testing allows us to determine what level of services our students who are learning English need for the coming school year. Please reach out to Aimee Galego if you have any questions about this assessment at agalego@bostonpublicschools.org.

On February 7th we will be visited by the Massachusetts Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education, Jeff Riley. Commissioner Riley will be visiting a handful of schools in East Boston to see the work we are doing to build deeper learning practices. We are looking forward to his visit and sharing the incredible work our students are engaged in PreK-6.

We are fortunate to welcome New England College of Optometry (NECO) to the Bradley School again for state mandated Vision Screenings. Due to some unforeseen scheduling and staffing conflicts the schedule has been adjusted.  Please
CLICK HERE to access the schedule. Parents may contact the nurse, Jackie Brady, with any opt out requests to jbrady3@bostonpublicschools.org.

In April 2023, the School Family Council in partnership with The Friends of The Bradley will hold a Calendar Raffle fundraiser to support our student events throughout the school year. We are looking for gift cards/gift certificates to various stores or restaurants to be used as calendar prizes. A paper copy will be sent home this week. Your generosity is greatly appreciated! You can also sign up via Google Form
HERE.

Smiles Massachusetts mobile dentists are coming to the Bradley School on April 24-27th. Smiles Massachusetts provides mobile dental care to children in schools. Team members include locally licensed dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants. Dentists provide a thorough dental examination, dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, sealants, and x-rays, when necessary. Permission forms in English and Spanish will arrive home this week. Please contact Nurse Jackie Brady with any questions: School Phone (617) 635-8422; or email
jbrady3@bostonpublicschools.org.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. We look forward to welcoming our incredible students and families tomorrow morning.
