Winter–Spring 2023 Workshops

Just three weeks left of early registration for our winter–spring workshops! Register by February 12 to save $15. Or become a member and save $25 off registration at any time.

We strongly encourage writers from historically underserved and marginalized communities to apply, including (but not limited to) writers of color, LGBTQ+ writers, writers with disabilities and women writers.

Writing Convictions
Today, the body itself is an argued topic in which there is still no language. What the body often does with its convictions is a silent riot that finds justice in a poem. These poems become places where poets begin to curate a “language of the unheard” (MLK) to a larger audience. In this five-week online workshop, we’ll take a deeper dive into writing poems with convictions. We’ll focus on bold approaches to writing inner truths and beliefs. Read more.

Poetry and the Future Self
In this five-week online workshop at the start of the new year, we’ll meditate on the concept of Future Self, the version of yourself and your poems that you know you can be and that you want to write. In an atmosphere of self-trust and mutual respect, and through weekly exercises, prompts and workshopping, we’ll let go of limiting beliefs that no longer serve us and our poems and find new ways of feeling and writing so that we may become unstuck. The Rules We Break
Inside most poets is a petulant five year-old who bristles when told not to do something. This especially applies to poetry: when someone becomes too prescriptive about what it is or should be, or what it should or shouldn’t do. In this five-week online workshop, we’ll engage in the liberatory practice of pushing against rules: whether they be academic, social or personal. From leaning into writing about the moon to leaning into hearts, clichés and idioms, we’ll examine sample texts and look at how they conform to or buck established conventions. Read more.
